우아~ 初老(?) 의 나는 이 책을 접하고 다시 소년이 된다.

15소년 표류기를 탐독하던 그 때의 아새끼말이다.

 

Eric Arthur Blair는 1950년 에 심한 폐병으로 숨진다. (나는 살았지만, 나는 미물.)

1920년대 대영제국의 지배하에 있던 버마에서 주재경찰.

 이 책은 그의 버마시절에 대한 사후추적이다.

결국엔 식민지 경찰직을 버리고 소설가가 되어 영국으로 나오는 한 젊은이를 본다

 

버마가 여전히, 지금은??  '동물농장'이던 시절에 대한 작가(Emma)의 뼈저린 저주?

식민정부의 효율성과 민족자존, 각지역 종족간 대립, 충돌.

뻔한 레토릭이 아니라...인간성이란 원래 치졸한 것이라....맹자가 틀린 것 아닐까.
